Aqua is, first of all, one of the few people in the Worlds with a Heart that is made up primarily of Light. She is not, however, a Heart of Pure Light like Ventus or the Princesses of Heart. In some ways, this manifests in her care and devotion to her friends. Not just Ven and Terra but everyone she meets. She's very much the "mother" figure of Eraqus' apprentices.

Sometimes though, she can be careless in how she cares. She ends up alienating Terra for a time, making him think she was just sent to keep an eye on him and his Darkness, which in turns alienates Ventus. This is far from the truth but her skill at showing that had been extremely lacking at the time. Still, she continued her mission while trying to watch out for her friends.

She doesn't take kindly to anyone being threatened and sees the best in most people.

In the case of the former, she finds a young Kairi threatened by Unversed in Radiant Garden and rushes to her defense, even enchanting her necklace to keep her safe. She also saved Mickey in the Lanes Between and takes him to Yen Sid's Tower for Yen Sid, Goofy, and Donald to look after him. In Neverland, she helps the Lost Boys and Peter, defending them from Unversed and Vanitas. When Xehanort tried to banish Terra's body tot he Realm of Darkness, she gave up her own safety to see him back to the Realm of Light, stranding herself. She does this again years later when encountering Mickey in the Realm of Darkness and seeing him and Riku being swarmed by Heartless as they try to escape. Once again, she gave up her own freedom and safety for them. And then, once more, she defends her mysterious companion (Ansem the Wise) on the Dark Magin when Heartless Ansem attacked them, this time without her Keyblade.

For the latter, she teaches Experiment 626 about friendship, even encourages him. Terra, she never stops doubting, even telling their Master that he'll show them all that he's worthy of being called a Master. She trusts in the Seven Dwarfs when she visits Dwarf Woodlands. Even when Terra has seemingly stolen Aurora's Heart, Aqua doesn't give up hope.

She's hopeful and kind and selfless, and she does her best to be a good example to her friends. Even those she doesn't know as well, such as Scrooge.

Aqua's also incredibly intelligent. Despite growing up in the Land of Departure, she knows a great deal about other worlds, magic, and acrobatics. She even knows the good luck charms of Destiny Islands, despite not visiting until near the end of her adventure.

And the she's also very innocent. Even being an adult, her life has mostly been about training and protecting the World Order. So when it comes to flirting or anything vaguely romantic, Aqua is easily embarrassed and finds herself lost on any way to respond.
